Leisure is one of the most popular human activities. Numerous proverbs and sayings depict the importance of this kind of time-spending. When we were still children, we all learned an old proverb “All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy”. A bit childish it is, but this saying perfectly describes the most important feature of the leisure.
In its most general meaning, leisure is discretionary time spent in non-compulsory activities. Either active or passive, this time is recreational, and this is probably one of the most important functions of leisure.
Thomas Hobbes called is “the Mother of Philosophy”, and Samuel Johnson expanded this idea, saying “All intellectual improvement arises from leisure”. Basically, leisure provides us with an opportunity to grow and develop in numerous ways we are interested in. Some people enjoy going in for sports, others – travel, some other people prefer reading or spending time with their family, friends or even new people. Continue reading “Leisure Time Essay”
The development of economy and technologies brings numerous advantages in our world. All of us enjoy the contemporary era of speedily evolving branches of life. However, we sometimes do not notice the other side of this medal. In recent period of globalization and multi-national expansion there appeared controversial phenomena – outsourcing. In couple of words outsourcing means moving resources to low-cost countries. Is it positive or negative? Let us try to think about merits and demerits of outsourcing.
Of no doubt outsourcing does have significant advantages. Great number of corporations has already accepted this policy of business and now faces numerous benefits. If I were given a chance to meet anybody who has ever lived and spend the whole day talking to that person, I would choose the French Queen Marie Antoinette. The reason for my choice is not her extraordinary talents or achievements; instead, I am interested in how an ordinary woman could have made it through the turmoil of the dark times for the French monarchy, a difficult marital relationship and never lose her sense of dignity.
I admire Marie Antoinette first of all for having endured the challenge of spending all or most of her time in public when she was still the wife of the French dauphine when she had to “on my rouge and wash my hands in front of the whole world” (Wikipedia, 2006). To a certain degree, each of us has to endure the challenge of being in public with one’s thoughts and feelings, and I would ask her how she was able to withstand this trial. I would also ask her how she managed to remain modest and nice to people surrounding her so that Jeanne Louise Henriette Campan in his memoirs remembered of her as “unwilling … to be reminded of her elevation” (Campan, 2004, p. 10). Sustainable development (SD) has been is evaluated against three interrelated dimensions – social, environmental, and economic (Stevens, 2005, p.1). School uniforms, in my deepest conviction, receive more attention than they should. After all, what a person wears should never eclipse what kind of person this is. In this sense, school uniforms are just an attempt to regulate what one thinks and does through clothing – and as every attempt of this kind it seems futile and hopeless. I believe that introduction of uniforms is pointless when teachers want to discipline their students. In terms of psychological development of the child, it may be even harmful for the young personality. Continue reading “Argumentative Essay on School Uniforms”
I would like to start by saying that in early 1990s many large public relations and advertising companies in UK employed occupational experts to conduct a teambuilding working workshop to identify issues inhibiting the optimum performance of their senior management team. The typical 1-day workshop used the teamwork exercises. The individual styles of team members and the dynamics and interactions of this intact team were identified. In the following essay I will speak about why an individual may not be performing his job as effectively as he could from the following 1- individual reasons, 2- interpersonal reasons, 3- organization reasons. The main aim of this paper is to concentrate upon the issues of knowledge and faith, upon the connection, if there is any, between them and to consider the extent to which faith is a legitimate basis for knowledge claims, in religion and different areas of knowledge. All knowledge systems do present a sophisticated structure, where faith is actually the foundation of it. Before building any kind of knowledge system we would have to start with some basic assumptions. Often these assumptions are called axioms and they help to construct the knowledge systems as they can not be either justified or contradicted by reason. Continue reading “Faith and Knowledge Essay”
It is remarkable what a significant role the basic principles of communication can play in our life. Some people often wonder why some of their friends and colleagues are more successful in communication and often as the result in life then the others. Or, perhaps, most of us sometimes wondered why it is more pleasant to communicate with some of our friends then the others. Of cause, some would say that it depends on how much people have in common, and those would be right, but there is something extra that makes communication between people pleasant. The ability to listen is that great gift that makes people talk and feel comfortable. Continue reading “Mastering a Skill Essay”
